Editorial guide
The rules our editors follow on every page, from how a legal threshold is checked to how a vendor fact is corrected.
Updated Oct 18, 2026
Sources first
- Securities law and regulation. Thresholds and rules come from the primary text: the Code of Federal Regulations, SEC releases and the statutes. Figures that change, such as offering limits, carry the year they apply to.
- Vendor facts. Prices, trials, certifications and features come from vendor sites and documentation, recorded in our research file with the date checked.
- Market practice. Statements such as “an 8% preferred return is common” are worded as ranges and practice, never as rules, and never with invented statistics.
Plain words
We write for people at work: founders, CFOs, GPs, sponsors and their advisers. Short sentences, concrete numbers, no hype. Every page answers its question near the top, then explains.
How we write about vendors
- Strengths and gaps are stated as facts from the research file: listed or not listed, published price or quote only.
- We do not claim tests we did not run. Where a hands-on check helps, it appears as a checklist for your own trial.
- Review platform ratings and user counts are not used.
Corrections
If a page is wrong, tell us. We fix factual errors quickly and change the updated date on the page. Vendors can send corrections to their facts with a public source.
Independence
Commissions never decide what a page says about a product. The affiliate relationships page explains the commercial side.
Not advice
Pages explain how raises and data rooms usually work. They are not legal, tax or investment advice for your raise.
